    Loomis NRX

    What other rod brand other than Loomis has a rod that compares to the sensitivity of the NRX?

    There’s quite a few at NRX level. Daiwa Steez AGS is on par with my NRX’s, actually Weight/balance is better with the Steez too.

    Really nothing but it’s subjective! Certain NRX rods are in a league of their own and are unmatched.
    NRX has been and will be the bench mark by which all Other rods are measured.

    The original BCR 803 GLX is up there with the NRX
    Zbone rods are very good and similar in feel to the NRX

    When you get into the the JDM stuff there are upper echelon MB rods, Evergreen Rods, and Shimano Poison Ultima rods...

    I would second:

    * Steez AGS (Bottom Contact in particular)
    * Kistler ZBONE

    Love my 873CRR but gotta say the Toray blank used in Dobyns Xtasy series are ultra sensitive. Spent a couple days dragging 1/2oz jigs in 12-30’ of water and it’s easily my preferred rod. In fact I prefer it over my Conquest 904c too.

    I think the xtasy blank is up there in the sensitive dept compared to the 873 nrx I had.

    Unpopular opinion: There are a lot of rods that are comparable to or even more sensitive than the NRX line these days, many costing significantly less and many mentioned above. I think there's this aura around the NRX that will not go away---let me be clear, it is well deserved---and a lot of guys are just going to believe they're the most sensitive rods no matter what. If you could do a blind test, I bet there would be some people who walk away surprised.

    Because I know that some will take it that way, I want to be clear that I'm not trying to bad mouth the NRX. They are amazing rods. It's just that the current production blue thread NRX series hasn't been updated in what, 8 years? Maybe longer ago than that? Blank and guide technology has come a long way since then. They did just refresh the fly rod lineup. I bet there's a refresh coming on the rest of the NRX lineup too, and maybe then they'll be back to being the unquestioned top dog.

    In any case, I think a competent rod builder can pretty easily beat an NRX at half the price without too much trouble.

    The Shimano poison adrena is right up there, I just sold a nrx and a mb orochi xx to fund it. They will not be missed.
