    Buying used boat in NC

Hey NC BBCers I’m looking at traveling down to buy a used boat in NC (I’m from CT)that is a personal sale. Any tips on handling the paperwork/title/ect? Are trailers titled in your state?

Paperwork (titles) must be notarized on boat and trailer. Don't know about your state requirements on transfer of ownership.

Ask the seller to arrange a visit to a notary.

Yep, do that before you leave. And, if your state requires it to register, you might want to ask for a bill of sale.

You most definitely want a signed bill of sale listing the boat make, model and serial number, same for the motor and trailer. The boat sale price also. If the state where you are purchasing it requires a title make sure you get it and it is signed for the sale. Call the DMV of the state of sale and ask if they issue boat and trailer titles.
