Changing to a four stroke on a 203

Any 203 drivers have experience with a Mercury four stroke on their boat? I’m considering changing from my carb 200 hp Merc. Specifically what horse power and the best set up as far as jack plate etc.

Get a Merc 250ProXS four stroke and a 10" Atlas JP and never look back.

I can change out the engine myself. I would like to find a source to just ship me one at a discount.

Pretty sure any big motor requires a certified tech to sign off the install for warranty.
It sucks because I know I’ll do a better job myself than anyone I’d hire.

I’m almost ready to drive down to Mexico to buy a new Yamaha. A four stroke will sink my scooter, and you can’t buy a carb two stroke in the US. They still make them just won’t sell them. I can buy a commercial 85 with no oil injection for just under four grand. I’ll smuggle the cash in and pay whatever duty when I get back. Warranty? Not going to worry about it, if it blows it blows.

Might be wrong but what mods do you have to make to the fuel system? My 4 stroke has a pressurized system their is multiple hoses I don't know what they go to sorry just bought it.

I would ensure you know the weight of the new engine compare to your current engine.

I get a "your back end seems a bit low" at least once a month in my 203 with tanks 3/4 full and 2 riders

I don’t believe they weigh less than his old carb motor though.

Pretty sure Ulrich Marine in Branson West Mo has rigged a 2000 203 with a 250 Pro XS 4 Stroke. If you call them I am sure they would point you in the right direction.

I have heard that for the warranty to be validated, they have to be installed by a dealer (Mercury and Yamaha). It may be wrong, but have heard that enough times that it immediately came to mind when you said this. Your mileage may vary.
