    Smallies, perch, or bait fish?

I was thinking bait fish at first, but the size of the dots and the thickness of the arches got me thinking it was a school of smaller sized smallmouth. BUt smallmouth schools don't get that thick correct? Their schools are usually longer/wider but less depth.....almost a flat line school correct? So maybe something like perch or alewife?

Judging by where you live, that's a big pile of yellow perch. I've seen similar shots (pre-Garmin for me) and caught a mess of yellow perch.

Looks like small panfish to me. Been chasing perch lately and that looks like small perch to me.

For me, on Lake Michigan, I'd say perch. Only one way to find out...
