    Spook jr replacement

Guy over the last week I have had some luck fishing a Heddon super spook jr. I believe fish are getting conditioned to my favorite lure as they still seem to be feeding on shad but will not take the spook. I have tried bigger spooks, buzz baits, rattle traps, jerk baits, etc with no luck.
I am now going to try my luck on plastic baits. Any suggestions
These fish are in shallow water. Most 1-3’

Have you tried a fluke? A swim jig can also work wonders. Frequently trying a super fast retrieve with either of those will often get a reaction Strike.

I like your thinking. I did not try those baits but the fast retrieve sounds like something that might trigger a reaction strike. Thanks

    Fluke.
Also https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Ever...page-EGJT.html in the 95 size. Cast better, and is almost silent.

If they don't go after the fast retrieve in water that shallow I would give a frog or even a floating worm a try.

Sounds like a perfect scenario to try a Jackall Riser Bait. They’re pretty specialized lures but I’ve caught fish on them when fish are busting shad and won’t hit a “normal” topwater up in my neck of the woods on the Mississippi. Specifically on Lake Pepin / Pool 4.

Best thrown on a spinning rod in my opinion...makes it a lot more versatile as you can bomb it if you really need to do so.

Agree with the Showerblows. Great changeup from a spook.

I do really well with a scrounger/fluke when they're on a shad bite too

Big fan of the Lucky Craft Gunfish 95. Its a little more subtle than a straight walker and spits some water like a popper. I also agree with the fluke suggestion.

I was thinking a 4.5" sluggo. Great bait shallow.

Lots of variations on the walking bait to choose from that would give a different look to the fish: vixen, knick knocker, Duo Realis Pencil, chug bug, Evergreen Shower Blows, sexy dawg, etc.

Thanks for all replies. Just a little update. Only got to fish once since posting. Water was low and fish would have nothing to do with my spook. Had one fish on fluke. Picked up shakey head with finesse worm and had a ball with small fish.

A floating jerkbait could be another thing to try. You can reel it slowly like a wake bait or fish it like a jerkbait and it will dart down erratically and float back up. The Bagley Minnow B is a good option that's really bouyant that gets smashed. When fish are looking up it seems like a quick rip followed by a pause with that bait rising quickly back to the surface is something they just can't stand.
