24 or 36 Volt Trolling Motor

Just a question, does an XRS need a 36 volt motor or will a 24 volt work just fine.....

Depend on the current you fish...around here you need a 36 in some of this current.

Everyone fished fine with 24 before 36 was popular , either one is fine. It wasn't that long ago we used evinrude 55 lb thrust motors. I have a 36 but definitely could run a 24 I am not hard on the tm.

The Garmin Force runs in either 24v or 36v. They claim it beats the 36v competition in 24v mode. So if you bought the Garmin, you could just add a battery if it turned out necessary.

If I had to do it again I probably would have gone 24V... The lakes and rivers I fish very rarely have a current a 24V system couldn't handle... Heck I very rarely go above 5 on my 36V Fortex... Dan

Agree with Al 100%. Probably could run a 24v but do prefer a 36v though probably not necessary

Every boat dealer told me I only need a 24v trolling motor for a 22-23 ft tin bay boat. I would imagine they make more money off the more expensive 36v set ups.

I have a 36v and wouldn’t want to go back to a 24v, but Bullets are light do great with a 24v. The main reasons I like my 36v is the current I get into at times and some of the lakes I fish are 9.9hp only and it gets me around a lot faster.

Great feedback! Thanx. I fish in Texas mainly Fork and a few other smaller east Texas lakes. I proposed the question due to cutting a little weight in the rear of the boat and only dropping a couple of hundred bucks instead 300 plus when ordering and when I would have to buy replacements....

I have a 24 on mine. So far I have not needed a 36, but, I fish only Florida. If I fished Michigan with it I would have a 36

We had some pretty good storms today and that wind picked up hard and that 36v made it nice!

I'm running a Lowrance Ghost, I started out on 36v but recently changed to one 24v lithium and so far have not had any issues, seems to have plenty of power. I don't fish much current but I do fish A LOT of wind in Oklahoma. I've fished several 10-11 hour tournaments in really strong wind and waves since I went to the 24v. The most battery I've used it 35%. (going by my lithium phone app)

I'm old school and like av, i remember the 55 lb Evinrude days and have experienced running out of battery or not having enough motor, so I do like having a piece of mind with the 36v, but so far with my Ghost, not seeing that 36v is needed for what I fish.

To me, the ability to change from 24v to 36v with the same trolling motor is absolutely awesome!! Next to spot lock, best thing ever!

The Ghost is my next “want”! I’m really impressed with it. From the high thrust to simply how it functions, makes me want it bad!

I have the Garmin Force on mine and love it. I do run 36 volt because I fish the tn river but think it would do good on 24. It is way stronger than my old 112 Ultrex. The only thing I dislike about the Force is the Garmin props are horrible. I replaced mine with a weed less Wedge for a 24 volt Ultrex and it fits perfect so problem solved.

I've heard good things about the Garmin, I don't think a guy would be disappointed with either the Garmin or the Lowrance. Both are awesome!
