    201pe transom

How do I figure out if the transom is composite the boat is a 97. All the decals that say what the boat is made out of are gone.

I had a 96 201 back in the nineties. It was not composite. I remember selling it so I could get a composite boat in the early 2000s.

Stratos and Javelin was built under the same roof. In 1999 Javelin went all composite. To the best of my memory in 97 near the end of the production year some Stratos were made that were all composite. In 98 all Stratos was composite. So with a 97 being in question it could or could not be all composite. I very well could be wrong but it seems like I remember reading about this here in the past on BBC so maybe an archive search to see I you can find the thread.

Long-shot but locate your hull vin number, call Ranger and ask if they have anyone with any knowledge of the Stratos brand. I know that sounds weird but the mother company that own Stratos also owns Ranger. You might could contact Gary Clouse, Earl Bentz, Greg Straum or Alan Stinsion. They were heavily involved with Stratos and know the history of production. The last two names I mentioned would be my choice to contact. Another long shot might be contact C and O marine. There is people there that have a ton of knowledge about Stratos boats. In reality if you could contact Alan or Greg they would know or at least know how to find out....I am pretty sure your going to need the VIN number because some of the 97's were composite and some were not. Decoding the VIN will tell you what you are wanting to know.

If you had some way to contact Alan Stinsion he was the lead design engineer in that time period. He would know from memory or at least know how tell you to identify the difference.

Go on the stratos owners page on facebook. Ask the question there. I think you'll get an answer.

Just remove a bolt and see. Even on a composite hull, you should remove all the bolts and reseal them with 3m 4200 every few years anyway.
