Repower in Chicagoland Area...
Anyone have experience with a repower in the Chicagoland area? I have an 89' Ranger 374v with a 1994 Evinrude Intruder 175. Unfortunately the motor is shot. There's no compression in Cylinder 1 and piston damage due to a leaky head gasket. The expense of putting in a new power block is considerable for a motor this old (approx $5-6k), although expected. I'm leaning towards a new motor repower or putting on a used motor. Has anyone had good luck in these parts doing something similar? Boat is currently at Chicago Yacht Works (closest to my home) where they could get me in the fastest and diagnosed the problem. However, I'm not sure they're specialists in bass boats. I plan on calling Dan at DC Marine in Wilmington, IL, who has done work on the boat in the past and I plan on reaching out to Bedford-Sales in Morris, IL. Cabela's in Hammond, IN is going to call me as well. Just wondering what to expect if anyone's been through the same thing...
THANKS!
Bob

Stay away from the big box stores. Heard nothing but problems from them.

Give Greg at Lake Holiday marina in Somonauk a call if a Mercury is a possible replacement choice.

Danny at DC is great but he is not a dealer unless something has changed. If you use him you’ll need to somehow get the new motor to him. I’d call him and see what he can do maybe he has a connection to a dealer somehow.

Thanks Fellas, I appreciate the input...
