2005 225 HPDI / High Rpms Low Speed Issues

    Hey yall,

Just recently, my boat has been running really high rpms (5500 / 6500) with very little speed (maybe 45 mph).
Wondering if it’s a spun prop or just a bad rpm gauge.

This motor has never had any issues what so ever.
Been running like a top for over 15 years.
i take care of it like it’s a 2nd child. Lol

Did some PM tonight, took it out, WOT, looked down and it was at 7000 rpms.
Holy HELL, immediately shut it down to idle, not running hot or nothing.

Powered back up and I’m doing 30/40 mph at 5500/6000 rpms.

Prop looks good, good pee stream, not running HOT.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas.
    Appreciate y’all in advance ?

I'm no expert but my thoughts. Does the motor sound normal to you? If it was actually running at those rpms it would be screaming. I'm pretty sure rev limiter is 6150 so its unlikely it would actually rev 7000. With key on engine off does the rpm gauge settle at 0? Sounds like bad gauge to me but the only way to be sure is get a Yamaha diagnostic scantool on it and see what actual rpms are vs gauge readout.

    I appreciate the response.

    That’s exactly what I thought.

    Boat sounded normal at WOT.
I’m going to replace the gauge this week and have a prop shop double check the prop hub.

    Thanks again for your reply.
These boards are invaluable and just needed a second opinion.

Purchased the new tack/water pressure gauge from Ranger.
Semt me updated harness and had to return for old harness
    no worries

New water pressure sending unit worked fine but the tach did not
has power but needle never moved

bad gauge or something else ???

plugged in the old gauge and everything was fine

    any comments appreciated

    thanks
