Do you measure just the top or the step too.

If your talking about your prop to pad height here is good instructions...and regarding the step pay no attention to the step, measure from the lowest part. Details are in the picture...
trying to buy a new motor not sure if 20" shaft or 25" shaft
Ask them what the engine model number is and ask them for a picture. You should be able to look at a picture and tell and if you have the model number it can be decoded to see if it came from the factory with a 20" or 25" mid section. What I posted above shows how to measure prop to pad height. Using the picture I posted will not decode what length the mid section is.
