    1998 Johnson Venom 225 pros/cons?

Hey guys, looking at a boat with a 98 Johnson Venom 225 on it. Never owned one or ran one. Pros and cons? What should expect or look out for? Thanks.

Pros, good engine runs strong and can be a very good engine if properly maintained.

Cons, holly crap that thing loves fuel!!!!

I noticed carb bowls are no longer available. Do they have the same warping issues as the Faststrike/Intruder bowls?

Probably not as much as those old crossflows,,,,me-check speedo time to time and but keep an eye on the gas gauge..all the time. Think the gas gauge gets to zero faster than the speedo does

All of the plastic bowls warp over time, just sand them flat and use them again.

Great,,,actually took the boat out yesterday and ran up and down the river a few times. Can climb now,,probably going back to work light duty the end of the month. Finally got to tinker with some motors and rebuilding a lower unit as we speak...(bent prop shaft). Thanks for asking,,,

This guy is down in the Charlotte, NC area. I might drive down there and take a look at it.

You got a spare "stash" of those carb bowls sitting around somewhere Fred?

You could run a G2 for a month at WOT on what this engine would use in a day.

Me and my fishing partner make a 28 mile WOT run at certain times during the fishing season. I’m guessing that would be a 13-14 gallon trip with the Venom hanging on the back! I use to burn between 6 and 7 with my 150HO.
