The grass that grows in a "shrub" configuration and has a yellow flow on top is what I have always known as milfoil. However the NOAA grass ID seems to indicate otherwise. I searched the forum to no avail. So any insight would be appreciated.

Not sure if your referring to spatterdock? It has yellow flowers but it's a lily. Milfoil is soft and kinda looks like feathers. Hydrilla is tougher feeling and looks like a stem with straight leaves on it.
Tom that's Stargrass. Lots of it in the river this year.
I keep posting links for grass identification and Hal is the only one that saves it.

I crossed over Occoquan River last Friday and on the southern side of the river I could see what appeared to be lots of grass along the shore.
Grass or no grass. I just flat out get um!
Bless your heart...
Thanks Mike. At least someone appreciates greatness. Just don't ask me for any of my sneaky river spots :)
