What's more accurate gps or speedometer gauge ??

My speedometer has only worked 1 day in 17 yrs of owning my boat. Waste of space on the dash

In the 10 years I have had GPS I think I know of 2 times it was not reading right. I did just assume I was not really doing 85mph running down the lake.

Surprisingly my boat speedo reads close to my GPS. I rarely look at it as the helix blocks it and i use the GPS for speed readings!

Hell, my boat does 20mph sitting in the drive way turned off.

I ordered my new boat and deleted the analog speedometer. Why would a boat builder even put these in a new boat? They are never accurate even when they work.

A speedometer gauge is a joke. That’s something you take out and put a radio in it’s spot. GPS, when in the open is usually in sight of 24-28 satellites and is very accurate.

That's exactly what I did, ditched the speedo for a 3 inch radio that fit perfectly in its place.

think my speedo stopped working first time my new boat hit a stump that was about 10 years ago when it was a week old Only keep it because it would leave a big hole .
made me smile when it was working

I use neither one , just tell everyone that she'll do 80 + on a good day . Same thing goes for which scale is most accurate .

My 2019 Cat has no in dash analogue speedo. Never realized it until months after I brought it home.

My speedo tube is disconnected and tied up under the dash.

Ive had plenty of boats that the speedo was very much spot on, but there was 2 of them side by side with calibrated paddlewheels on the transom.

Just bought a boat with a 4 stroke on the back and a speed guage on the dash. Checked it with a GPS app on my phone and it was spot on. I am assuming it picks up water on the front of the lower unit.
