2015 115 HP Etec (first time Etec owner)

Going to purchase a boat with a 2015 115 etec with 68 hours on it.... was wondering what to look for as I have always had Mercury Optimax motors in the past

On Optimaxs I know to check out air compressor pulley for wiggle, leaking oil pump, appropriate PSI etc but am clueless on what to look for.

I am purchasing it from a widow so only real option is to run it on ear muffs to make sure it starts and idles properly.

    Thanks

Unless you are a mechanic and have the ability to perform a compression test and check gear lube and trim fluid.........Go for a ride on the lake, does the engine idle smooth? Does the engine shift smooth? Does the engine run WOT smooth? Shut it off after it get warm, does it restart?

If it runs and shifts smooth chances are you have a great engine.
If the guy wont take it to the water, run!

I can certainly do a compression test on it and check gear lube and trim fluid...have never done a compression test on an etec but I would imagine its the same as any other motor (I have read the spark plugs on etecs must be turned a certain way so removing them the first time would make me nervous). I am buying from a widow so she has no means to move the boat and cannot operate it...hoping she will let me take it to a lake for good measure.

If she is kind enough to let you take it to the lake make sure your insurance will cover you and the boat, never know what could happen.

I would suggest you simply have the owner ride in the boat on the test drive.........then their insurance would cover you?

True if she has the boat insured and age is not an issue.
