    250 Pro XS WOT Throttle Position

    2016 Mercury pro xs 250 serial number 2B125795

    I just got Mercury vesselview mobile and it shows my WOT rpms are about 400 lower than my analog gauge was showing. 5450 instead of 5800, I checked my WOT throttle position and there looks to be about a 1/4” gap instead of a 1/16”, would this make much of any difference to my WOT rpm? I also have a hot foot, could that be utilized to adjust it quickly and safely?

    Ok thanks I will do that, being that its such a small adjustment can I expect any RPM increase after I adjust it? It looks like it would be such a small amount of throttle gained.

    Ok I disconnected the throttle cable at the motor and adjusted the stop behind the vst until the gap was down to 1/16” then i reattached the throttle cable and adjusted the hotfoot stop so it would stop it at the correct time. Anything else i may have missed or done wrong? Thanks for all the help again!

    Ah, didn't loosen the throttle cable nut a 3/4 turn so the black plastic washer would spin free, I'll go do that. Other than that I followed all those steps, thanks!

    After following those steps to adjust i ended up not gaining any RPMs according to my Mercury vesselview mobile but i was going 2mph faster, can’t complain there I guess lol. 69.5 before adjustment and 71.5 after

    So your RPM's are still 5450???

    If this is true, then you ARE running TOO MUCH prop pitch and consequently lugging the motor.

    Yes it is still 5450, I was thinking it might be too much prop. It is my spare prop, my main prop got messed up earlier and my spare is one pitch higher than my main prop, I’m still waiting on a new main prop to come in. I’m running a 25p tempest right now but i usually have a 24p fury 4 and on my analog gauge the fury 4 read about 200 higher than the tempest did, so when I get that I’m assuming I’ll get into the WOT range. I installed my vesselview after i beat up my fury4 so I only know what that prop ran according to the analog gauge, which was 200 higher than the tempest ran.

    Alot of us run Summer and Winter (actually Spring and Fall) props.
    Summer = lower pitch
    Winter = higher pitch

    Ah, that makes sense. It has been about 85 and crazy humid here lately so that seems like it would definitely make an impact on performance. How much pitch do you think I should drop for a summer prop then?

    I personally would drop down to 23P and get that engine up into it's peak torque/hp band.
