    05 triton tr196

I have a tr196 with a 05 200 opti max currently running about 73 mph gps at 5300 rpm with a 25 pitch fury with a just me and a full tank. Boat has a 8inch atlas set at about 1.75 above the pad. with 2 people I'm 230 and my dad 275 full tank and live well full of fish I was running 68 on gps in the Louisiana heat but hole shot was terrible. What's your opinion on prop? I am trying to get the best of both worlds but I feel I should be turning up more RPM.

I have attached a photo showing how much boat out of the water at full speed.

I don’t mean to disagree but that doesn’t all sound right. I doubt you are running 73 at only 5300 rpm with a 25 “ prop. Your tach may be off.And did you mean to say 1.75 above the pad? That’s awfully high for that boat. It should run better around 2.5-3” under. Post up in the triton forum and see what those guys have to say. It’s been a few years since I played with a triton so maybe I’m wrong?

I thought my tack was off too man but my vessel view confirmed this motor has never come close to the rev limiter . 73 is on gps mark the prop guy told me try 1.75 above pad I still had good water pressure . I still need to play with the jack plate more just got the atlas installed last Thursday. I’ll post under the triton section. Thank you

Did Mark work your prop? The numbers don't work at 5300 more like 5700.

    04' TR196
    02" 200 EFI 3.0L
25 Fury freshly tuned to match a 26
    Full tournament load with co-angler
Sluggish hole shot and only topping out 60mph

Advice to improving speed would be greatly appreciated. 8" jackplate think i'm currently at 2.75" below pad. Hitting 5800 rpm easily with plenty of throttle left.

Raise engine up 1/4" at a time. My 05 TR196 liked around 2.25" below pad.

Loaded 68 mph is right at 10% slip which is where that service master lower runs. At 5600 it's only showing 71 mph but I don't know if I'd run a fury that high 1 3/4" under they seem to loose blades at that height.

Have a 2014 triton19xs running 225 hp four stroke 2b776205 (serial #) 10" manual jack plate 25 pitch turning 5700 rpms doing 68. how you'll getting so much speed. Intermitted speed is good with rpms like 4200 47 mph and such.

I run a Triton TR 21pd with a 225 efi and turn a 27 trophy with it and get 78 mph. That 196 is a different hull than your 19xs and can reach 75 with the right set up running that 200 Optimax and you have a lot more prop slip than he does. Your prop slip is 15% which is almost twice what it should be with that motor so something is off.

That's -2% slip. At 7% you would be doing 67.
