Do you guys have recommendations for boat launches. We will be staying close to the elk lake area
Use Google Maps and search "boat ramps". It will show their locations and then just pick the one closest to where you want to fish. Fish the areas that will be the most protected if the wind blows. That's basically what you have to do on these giant bodies of water up here. Make the most out of the area that is fish-able, that day. If it it's to rough, just fish one of the inland lakes until the wind lays down.

If I recall correctly there is a launch right in Elk Rapids. If you're in that area don't rule out Elk Lake and Torch Lake.
