    squeaky boat trailer

The area where the leaf springs attach to the frame on my single axle RangerTrail trailer are really squeaking every time I hit any type of bump in the road. I was able to isolate it by applying WD40 to various spots while my son bounced up and down on the trailer. However, the WD40 isn't going to last very long (it's already starting to squeak some when I bounce on the trailer), so I'm wondering what the best option is to fix this long term? Do I need to take the nuts and bolts off and apply marine grease to them?

There should be a plastic sleeve around all the hanger bolts, they wear out over time putting metal on metal. Sounds like yours are worn out.

If you're not going to replace any parts, white lithium grease spray will last longer than WD-40.

All trailers squeak. Grease does help . But after 37 years of towing bass boat trailers it just sounds like music to my ears knowing I’m going fishing again.

Thanks for the help guys! A little squeaking wouldn't bother me, but what I have happening is just embarrassing...anyone within a quarter-mile can hear me coming down the road if there are any bumps! My father-in-law is a mechanic, so now that I've isolated where the problem is, I think I'll have him help me take it apart and see what needs to be replaced.

Much easier to just install the wet bolts
Chain lube for chain saws works better and stay in place longer than any lube I have seen for leaf springs
    Thank You Leon Pugh

I just installed the dexter wet bold kit on my Triton Trailer. Overall very pleased with it and it was worth all the effort the trailer doenst make a sound now its much nicer. Its not a cinch job tho it takes some messing around to donit right without fighting it too much. The shackle kits are 1/2” thick plate and are very heavy duty. Im fortunate to have access to a tigertool portable press at work so we used that on all the bronze bushings and bolts. I would not want to beat all these in with a hammer. This is a multiple floor jack job too makes things much easier.

The Dexter EZ Flex kits do an amazing job of quieting a trailer down. I've installed a few of them and used the rubber bushing equalizer and the sounds all but goes away and they ride much smoother.

That will probably also help you get out of a speeding ticket: "Sorry ossifer, I couldn't see my speedometer".
