    Must batteries be taken out of series to test ?

    Not if you can take the cables off if they are in series. If it's only one stand alone battery, you can test without unhooking anything. Oh, and also, the leads on your load checking device must be long enough to reach the posts.

    That's what I thought until I got a weird result on load checking a 24v system's batteries on a Caterpillar loader about three weeks ago. On series or parallel, I unhook the cables now.

    Unless there is a load on the circuit, does not matter 1 battery or 10, if in series the tests will be accurate, I would very suspicious there was load, even if a small one it would skew results, especially if a non carbon Pyle tester is used for testing
    I Have not been around Catts for over 35 years, but used to be fairly common to see series-parallel circuits on ag equipment and many trucks

    this is on a series (36v) lithium setup if it makes a difference
