I like both, but a jig for me on the big bites.

I use one my son uses the other. Then we switch to the one getting bit.

I used to fish a jig 75% of the time and then it just left me. I quit it and now flip a soft plastic chigger craw, speed craw or z craw most of the time. Started trying to get the jig rolling again and its hard to get the confidence back in it. It's coming back, slowly, crapper with a jig is, all my old skirts have rotted off and I gotta redress them.
I use a jig all spring but once the weeds get thick it’s just easier to fish a weedless soft plastic. If I fish somewhere without thick weeds I’ll throw a jig.

I know being in Florida changes things for me, mainly water temps and no seasons! During the summer a swim jig with a craw trailer is what I use to pitch and cast. I mainly get hit either on the fall or during a slow retrieve. The craw trailer makes the jig fall really slow, especially compared to a boot tail when I’m casting a lot.
When flipping thick cover, even when shallow, the speed of the fall draws a reaction strike that the jig can’t match. A 4-5” stick bait with a 3/8-3/4oz weight sinks like a rock but still gets hit on the fall 90% of my strikes.

I prefer using soft plastics. Have flipped a jig sometimes but get way more bites with plastics for whatever reason.

I start with the t-rig worm and if not biting then switch to the jig, confidence for me as I like the worm better. One of those two will usually produce a few bites.
I like plastics in heavier weeds, and jigs anywhere else. Of course, you'll have days where the fish will have a preference, so there's no science to it.
Plastics in Heavy mats or rice/reeds.
Deep Water and deep weeds jigs.
I start with a pegged 3/8oz tungsten weight and a 4/0 or 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline EWG. If you look my name up, in the fishing tips and techniques section, you’ll see where I tried to go to a straight shank hook and failed miserably!
The straight shank (both snelled and not) went through cover better but my hook up ratio was downright pathetic!
