Trolling motor swap on 2020 zx225

I have a ultrex 112 on my zx225 and it works great, but I'm wondering if a fortrex 80 would be plenty of thrust for my boat. My theory is that I could save weight by eliminating a battery and lighten up the bow of the boat. I fish alone most of the time and rarely fish tournaments. Has anybody else done this or considered doing this?

Should I be looking for other weight saving ideas? I'm still breaking in the sho and have only seen 71.6 for top speed.

Fortrex would get the job done.

Anybody know or have weight specs on fortrex or ultrex? The ultrex looks like it may be way heavier than fortrex

I wonder if I'm crazy chasing speed, I just am thinking I might be able to get 2-3 more mph if I lighten the boat. However, if I can find some weight specs on the fortrex and ultrex, I will know for sure. The 2 trolling motors may weigh the same.

Ok, the fortrex112 is 13 lbs lighter than the ultrex. I'm guessing the 3rd trolling motor battery weighs 50 lbs. So, is it worth it to swap motors? I'm thinking it's not, I thought it would be more of a weight difference between the ultrex and fortrex

Without reflashing to a 300, just working on setup and lightening the boat what speed would be realistic to o obtain? I would love to be close to 80, but I probably don't have enough horsepower to get there. Is 77 possible?

If speeds what you want go lithium everything, run a light load, add a hydraulic plate and under good weather you’ll run 77

I’m sorry but unless you flash that ecu, I just don’t see you getting 77mph with a stock 225. Your speed of 71.6 is what they will do. Some run 69 and some like yours runs 72, but I’ve not seen one do that stock. Also, I would think spot lock on that Ultrex to be one of the last things I would exchange. Lastly, I like you chased the speed demon. I flashed my ecu to 300 @6500 rpms and never looked back. Good luck

Yes. The 80 will fish well. I'd stay with Ultrex, however. It's worth the 13 pounds if that is correct.

Getting rid of one battery will help also.

Lithiums will be a fairly substantial gain. 1 -3 MPH.

I doubt if you basically emptied the boat of tackle, went to lithiums, spent a few hundred or thousand playing with props, you'd ever have a consistent 80 MPH boat.

Biggest problem is you bought a 70 MPH boat and want to go 80.

I don't think the ZX225 will hit 80mph with a 225hp motor. Randy-T got his closer than anyone that I know of. I believe he got 78mph with a worked 25p T-1, but he was basically running naked. Take the power-pole off, use Lithium batteries, swap to 80lb thrust Fortrex, work with Mark on props, and you should get over 75mph. I doubt you will get to 80mph without upping the hp though.
