Not required but the manual used to say you need to use to get full performance. With the lower octane, the engine knock and the ECM retards the time resulting in a loss of power.

The 6.2 is awesome for sure but not at all a requirement for pulling a bass boat. I have no complains about how my 5.3 pulls my boat.

If it's an option you can afford go with the 6.2 you won't regret it. Lot's of issues with oil consumption in the 5.3. I purchased one with the 6.2 and love it. Gas mileage is not that much of a difference and it tows so sweet.

The 5.3 engine is plenty to pull any bassboat. I've had that engine in many trucks, never an issue. Its not like you are going to be challenged to many drag races while you're pulling your boat.

I have a 2004 suburban z71 with 5.3....literally best hauling vehicle I've owned. Don't even know the boat is back there. Gets good gas mileage towing as well. I wonder if they will have a 6.2 in the suburban anytime soon? I think they do for the yukons, but could be wrong.

I bought a 2020 loaded SLT with the 6.2 in November, it's been a great truck with plenty of power. I'm considering trading it in for a gas 2500 with the new 6.6 gas motor, as I miss the size of the 3/4 ton truck I traded on the 1500.

Should be available in the Burb RST...only the government can get the 3/4 ton Burb from what I understand.

I think the premium fuel statement is "for best performance."
