Lol. I deserve that. Just confirming that it’s from top of lower unit to bottom of power head.

I’m trying to solve a mystery here!

So next question: does a 45” shaft Ultrex have the same base as a 52”?

Here’s the deal......took my under warranty 45” Ultrex to the local MK shop for steering cable replacement. Just got it back and it seems after popping it back in the mount that it’s stretched from a 45 to a 52. Has anybody else’s done this?!

Are you sure you got back the right motor? Unless they replaced the shaft with a longer one, I dont see one stretching. And Yes a 45 mount is different.

All shafts are 52". They have to be cut to 45"

I disagree. If so,the upper end would need to be reamed out to accept the pinion gear and locking screws. I’ve had it done by a machine shop but it’s not standard. They do sell different shafts.

Wound up needing lower unit work as well. Replaced it with a new assembly that had a 52” shaft. I cut it down to size myself with no issues whatsoever. Took it out yesterday and all is well now.

Ultrex is a different critter than a fortrex/maxxum/edge. MinnKota has to bond the shaft to the center section at the factory -- shafts are not replaceable without replacing the center section. The shaft comes in 52" and needs to be cut for 45". A 52" shaft is 52" long, a 45" shaft is 48" long. The biggest difference in the two is the mount.

a 45 will work on a 52 mount but a 52 will not work on a 45 mount. Josh Douglas installs the 52 mount on his boat with the 45 shaft for when he has shallow water tourneys and can swap to the 52 easily for off shore events.
