2000 Ranger R83VS...what oz carpet was originally installed?

Going to be re-carpeting this winter and am going back and forth between 20oz and 24oz. Just curious what came on it originally.

I believe it was 20 ounce, Corey.

Thank you. If re-carpeting, would you stick with the 20oz or is the 24oz that much nicer?

I’d stick with the 20 ounce myself. 24 ounce has a deeper pile, but in my opinion doesn’t add to its durability or visual appeal. Plus it might make your lids that much tighter. If you keep the Ranger-style carpet clean, it lasts for a very long time and looks really good. I’ve been amazed at some of the pristine-looking carpet I’ve seen on boats 10-15 years old, or older.

Yeah if you keep the Ranger carpet clean and garage the boat then it will last almost forever. This is my 20 year old carpet.

20oz was original. I believe before that was 16oz, maybe 12. I was only able to get 24 oz from ranger. Yes the lids are tighter, but they won’t stay that way with some use. I also used a hair clipper to shave the edges and that made a big difference. It’s nice carpeting.

Thanks for the information. Anyone know what Ranger's parts department's hours are? Are they open weekends?

I’ll chime in, my 03 carpet is still good, maybe not as nappy as new but I really still have to pull hard to get the battery lid open. Great quality carpet. If it were me, I’d call on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Not on weekends. IIRC, 9-5 Central time.

I was always under the assumption that it is 24oz.

The new carpet is 24oz sir. I believe they went to that in 08 or so, according to the parts person I talked To last fall. I hope that person is still employed, super genuine people there.

My carpet doesn't look quite that good but for being 20 years old, mine doesn't look terribly bad either.
