    Circuit question

If a breaker is sized appropriately for a circuit, can use substitute a larger gauge wire between the breaker and the battery?

Circuit total (supply and return) is 28 feet. 14 amp load. 8 gauge wire. 30 amp breaker/switch. The breaker/switch is 8 feet from the battery. Can I use a 1 AWG battery cable from the battery to the 30 amp breaker switch?

The run is actually connected to a switch on the starting circuit and is closer to the 40 inches allowed by ABYC standards if in a sheath. I'm I right on that?

Breaker should be within a foot of the battery. It’s there to protect the wire, and can’t protect wire before the breaker. The sheath exclusion doesn’t apply to wires connected to a battery terminal.

I always appreciate your advice and the recommendations of the other pros here and I always do my best to follow your suggestions. Having said that, I'm still confused and would ask that you bear with me on this.

I'm trying to do this... with One battery and One engine (drop down selection)

And I'm using this for reference
    https://www.bluesea.com/support/arti...uit_Protection

Is this not an acceptable way to run my house cicuit main from the battery selector switch to my fuse box at the console with my 30 amp breaker/switch within 40" of the battery selector switch.

If you are connecting to the switch on the starting circuit, you can extend the distance from the battery. In that case, the source of power is considered the switch terminal. It is still best practice to place the breaker as close to the source of power as practical.

After some consideration of CatFan's advice it suddenly came to me how to do this with the breaker within 7" of the starting circuit battery selector switch. Previously, my TM breaker was on the port side next to the selector switch and the house breaker was on the starboard side. I just switched them. Easy Peasey!

    Thanks CatFan!

Nice clean install !! I'd turn the Blue Top battery around so the wires don't 'Chris-Cross' tho.

the insulators from VTE are really nice. They have a nice web store with a bazillion options for all kinds of insulators and other stuff.
