    1973 Evinrude 85hp gearcase

I have a 1973 evinrude 85hp model #85393m. After disassembly, I've determined due to multiple bearings exploded or seized from water intrusion that it would be more cost effective to replace than repair. The Skag was bent long before my possession and I've had the nickel and dime seals blown left and right over the last 2 years. My question is if a 1974 evinrude 70hp lower unit is swappable? The 2nd motor in question has model # 70ESL74M. I know that the cases a one number different in part numbers, but the shift levers appear different in the parts manual. Any thoughts? Also the water pump plates and housing are different

As I remember they are two different gear cases and will not swap.

Thanks, that was my thought as well. Think I'm going to step up to a 115hp evinrude
