How long should primer bulb stay hard?

    1994 Johnson faststrike j150glera
when I prime the bulb in my garage when on the trailer how long should it stay hard for? Should it hold prime as long as the motor hasn’t been started? It usually goes soft after a couple hours just sitting there. It’s a brand new primer bulb and fuel line too.

The primer bulb ensures the carburetors are full and the fuel pump is ready for fuel delivery. Staying pressurized is not a requirement for Easy starting. Pressure will bleed off over time. It’s normal.

I wasn't going to say it but someone will -

IF IT STAYS HARD OVER 4 HOURS YOU SHOULD GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM

I almost added “it won’t stay hard for longer than 4 hours” just to save someone the trouble. But I couldn’t take that enjoyment away from anyone! So not expected to stay pressurized for long periods of time is normal?

That is correct, as posted it is there to fill the system, the fuel pump does the pressurization.
Thanks for having a sense of humor.
