That was just 500lb ANFO.

This explosion in Beirut was reportedly from 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been confiscated from a ship in the port some time ago.

Thats 2750 metric tonnes = 6062712 lb

Never saw the myth busters truck. Murrah building ammonium nitrate bomb though nearly knocked me outta my chair from 2 miles away. That was a Ryder rental size trucks worth. Thought a semi truck had run into the side of our building.

News report I listened to said "confiscated munitions stored near the port". I guess illegal stuff seized from ships searched at the port? Anyways, they weren't sure if someone had commited a terrorist act and intentionally set them off or whether accidentally set off by something.

They are saying there was a guy welding - in the fireworks factory next shed - that set the fireworks factory off, which then spread to the ANFO storage shed.

what were they thinking- welding near fireworks??
