Trim sender or gage bad on 70 HP Yamaha?

On top of my trim unit not working properly, now the trim gage either flickers, stays all the way up, or works for a few seconds then goes back all the way up.
Before starting to replace parts, how do you check the trim sender? Pretty sure with an ohm meter?
Next would be the gage. No clue there.

    What model 70?

Sender is typically measured for ohms. Two wire type or three wire type.

Gauge is easy. Disconnect the sender wire. Gauge should go full down. Ground the sender wire. Gauge should go full up.

    Pretty sure it's 2 wire.

Checked the sender while still on the motor. Did not get any movement on the ohm meter at open and when moving the lever. Connections were kind of small but pretty sure the probes were making contact.
Removed it and checked again and same thing. Hopefully have this narrowed down.
Which wire on the gage is the sender wire? Gage is currently full up.
Any help would be appreciated. Pic of sender below.

Looks to be a two wire type.

What kind of gauge? Yamaha? Analog? Digital display multi-function? Wire from the gauge should be pink.

Gauge can be checked by disconnecting the sender wire. Gauge will go full scale one way or the other. Connect the sender wire to a ground. The gauge should go full scale the other way.
