04 521 Transom

I hit a floating tree yesterday evening and busted the whole transom out and tore up the engine pretty good also. I have had this boat 16 years and love it but I'm not sure if it can be fixed. Anybody know if Ranger will put a new Transom in these older boats or would I be better off looking for a newer rig. Any idea on cost if they can?

Unfortunately the answer is no. They no longer do this work. With engine damage you're looking at a significant cost, this should be an insurance claim since you have obvious structural damage. Any reputable fiberglass shop will be able to fix this. I think you can still get the parts you need from Ranger. Maybe contact Angler's Choice Marine, they may be able to point you in the right direction in your area.

Ranger won't touch it anymore. Best bet is an insurance claim and hope they total it.

If it’s just the transom...a good glass shop can do that no problem. I busted a basscat back in the day and it was better than factory after repair. Insurance covered it. Don’t write your boat off just yet. Let the insurance/surveyor make an assessment. Then you will know which way to go.

I do a lot of work with a local very well known east cost glass shop that fixes that stuff all the time. I’d defiantly get a reputable glass shop and your insurance to take a look at it. I do a lot of blend work for them and their work is fantastic. Lots of boats your way go there. They also do a lot of hull warranty work Ranger as well as many other brands.

Get an estimate for the whole repair including motor and have it before the insurance adjuster comes to see it. Then you'll know if they're in the ball park on the value. Make sure to get the engine thoroughly checked out !!

You can usually buy it back for next to nothing !! Bud had his Champion totaled out for $25k, bought it back for $2,500 !! Sold parts off it and then sold the rest as a PROJECT boat !! Only bad thing is it will have a Salvage title. But, he made a killing !!

So, how much are they giving you on a totaled ? They're gonna auction it off ! So figure what the total you can sell the Motor, Electronics, TM, etc and go from there. MAKE THEM AN OFFER !!!

Demand and prices are so high right now, they are likely willing to have their guy get it fixed and put it up for sale at a much higher price and get close to whatever they paid you out. If they are offering to sell it back to you for $7,025 they probably paid you out around $15,000 not including the accessories. This puts you in a spot to decide what you want to do...
