I use spinning tackle: Zodias 6' 8'' ML with a Stradic Ci4+ , 10 pound braid ( visible color, white or yellow) and 6 pound test fluoro leader. I mostly use Jackall I-Props.

7'6 tatula ags mml or st croix avid 7'6 ml xf. Ballistic 3000 and 8lb sufix seige. I'd highly recommend a 5 ratio spinning reel over a 6 ratio.

The main rod I use for spybaits is a custom on a blank that isn't available anymore (Shikari P7000) but any of the Phenix light action rods are great...Feather, Recon, M1...I've built a few on those blanks and they're very good for spybaits. Stradic Ci4 for the reel, I go with straight 6lb Tatsu.

GLX 852c w Zillion SV TW P (5.5:1) and a Megabass XX Flatside Special w SV105 P (5.8:1). Both reels are usually spooled with #12 Sunline Sniper FC but I have spare spools that fit the Zillion and sometimes I'll drop in a spool with #10 Sniper.

ALX made a spybait rod for me, 7'6" ML mod fast, daiwa ballistic 4000 5.2:1, 6 pound 832, 6 pound tatsu. It's really all about the rod. I'm sure most spinning rods will throw it well, but most of them are too fast for the small trebles and fiesty smallies. The mod fast rod is perfect to keep fish pinned all the way to the boat.

i have 2 baitcasters set up for spybaits. Two spinning. I have spent a lot of time playing with the set ups line, rod, reel. The conclusion for me is, spinning is the best, long 7-8 light action rod. Spinning hands down has the better drag system, able to use lighter line, cast farther. The drag is very key to keeping them pinned. My baitcasters are light action parabollic 7-2, the drags are the down fall, along with tghe ability to use light line 6-7 flouro. They do work on the 100s and 90s with 10#, but the drag and keeping them pinned seems to be the issue.

The one thing I will say, YGK sinking braid was a vast improvement as the main line.

Don't know if there's a better spybaiting rod than the Steez 7'6AGS MML.
