    Recommended cranking battery

Just wondering everyone’s recommendations on cranking batteries? I have a 2016 Mercury Pro xs 175 and 2 HDS Carbons. Currently running a interstate group 31 w/ 950 cca and 195 rc that’s only 18 months old. I’ve been noticing my graph going dark while cranking and a slight hesitation at time coming out of the hole after fishing several hours. Local shop has had it numerous times and can’t figure out the problem. I’ve read that a weak battery can cause performance issues. Not sure if the 2 are related but I’m willing to replace the battery to see if it helps. Thanks

I'd look at getting a better AGM31 battery.......it may cost more but shouldn't have any issues.

Here are some recommend Batts for Merc's.

Try the NAPA Commercial Battery 7234 or 7235 depending on which style posts you desire. Plenty of crank and lasts a long time. It should cure your graph issue. If you can, go up in size on 2-3 of your PVS plugs for the hesitation.

Its the batty I currently have. It was about a 1/3 less $ money wise then the other "big heavy 31" series batteries. I have no complaints besides the weight but that's the case with all the heavy weight cranking batteries. Going on prob a year and a half. Crank a 250 pro xs, two 10 inch helix's and a Lowrance HDS 7 plus all the live wells ect ohhh and a power pole

If you can afford it u might want to check out the post I started regarding lith batteries. I didn't want to highjack your post here. That's the next battery Im getting.... A few weeks from now.

And I have 3 Interstates in mine that are going on 4 years old and are working great. The last set went 5 years and were still doing OK.

    You're lucky.

I had 3 of my 4 Interstates on my last boat load test bad in less than a year. They left me stranded miles from the ramp after dark in February in sub freezing temps on Dale Hollow with poor cell service. Interstates are the "Kia's" of batteries imo and I'll never own another one. There are more guys unhappy with Interstates vs say Deka's, X2's, etc. I'm not going to roll the dice with them just to save a buck or just because I can swap them at a local Walmart.

Lot of luck for sure. 6 marine batteries in a row with no issues over a period of almost 9 years, for now I will hope my "luck" holds.

You guys with X2s, what are you using for a charger. Do you think any quality 10 amp per bank smart charger would be ok... How about Minn Kota Precision or Noco Genius?
