    2001 Nitro 929CDX Electrical

I am trying to help a good friend out with his Nitro boat. He has a 2001 Optimax on the boat and what I believe is a total ground issue within the boat. He does get one beep when turning key on and one also when starting, but it does start. I do believe that 2nd beep is a low voltage issue. But here is the main part. When he turns on his main accessory panel power button, it drops the voltage below 12 volts and when he turns on any accessory, i.e. livewell or pump out, it drops to less than 8. Can anyone help with where the ground wire comes from that goes to the fuse box to power the panel? Also, how can he run a separate ground wire to the panel to see if that is the problem. Any pics would help to show where he can hook up the ground and run a test wire... Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thanks for all your help!

I am not familiar with that boat but if you think you have a ground issue (high resistance) you could connect a #10 copper wire to the negative post of the start battery. Locate the black wire under the console/switch panel that connects to the gauge lights etc and connect there. This will give your instrument panel a good ground connection to the battery. Test this out and if it corrects the problem then you need to tear into that boat and find where the black wire from the battery connects and trouble shoot from there. If you have to, pull in another black wire from the battery compartment to the ground connection under the dash. You do know it could also be an issue with the positive wire.

Your ground is the negative post on the battery? High resistance could be just dirty connections at the battery and anywhere there is a connection.

The panel switch might need to be replaced, especially the master switch.
