    Private water

Not sure the rules in New York. Couple weeks ago fished Cayuga for 4 days. Left the boat at Hibiscus harbor marina. The marina was perfect for fishing especially when the water got rough. 2nd day the owner of marina got all upset about us fishing, saying he owned the land and paid taxes on it. And and had the marina dug out years ago. Not knowing the law or wanting to get Kicked out we apologize and didn’t fish anymore. I mostly fish in Maryland and Virginia and you can’t own the water. What is the rule on Cayuga?
    thx

If it’s a man made marina basin, it’s private water. If it’s a naturally occurring bay, it’s legal to fish. Most marinas on cayuga are man made.

You would think that once the water become contiguous with the lake it would become NYS waterway, but back in the "good old day" if you dropped a big enough envelope in front of the right person, they let you dig out anything. We dug out Sandy Creek Marina in Hamlin, NY many years ago, and what a rush of water when my partner Don, cut out the dam wall. The creek flowed backwards for a few minute.
BTW, did you ever mentioned that you were a paying guest? contributing toward the tax payment? We do get a few azzols like that up at the Island when flipping docks in French Creek, Clayton
