    06 285 pro xl , Yamaha 150 Vmax

Need a little help from the guys that have or had this setup
did any of you add a jackplate ?
im thinking I need a 6” jackplate to help this boat out a little.
im used to the 278 with a Johnson 150 that had one and
    ran like a beast .
it has a Laser 2 with 23p and I’m having to work on the whole
top gauge set to see water, rpm and etc.
    Any help is appreciated

I had that same boat several years ago. I ran a 6" plate around 3.25' below pad, 23P Tempest Plus. 60-61 mph at 58-5900 rpm. I currently have the same boat you had (278 w/150 Johnson) and may have some questions for you if you wouldn't mind.

Thank you man. I can help with anything I learned from mine, which most of what I learned came from here and the Johnson forum.

I picked up a '07 285xl with the 150 VMax this spring, and first thing I did was add a 6" jackplate. I didn't run it before I added the JP, so unfortunately don't have a comparison for you. It's set at 3.5" below pad, and runs great - top speed ~60mph with good pressure and handling. Running an M-23 prop.

    I have no plate on my 2009 285XL with a 150 Yamaha.

Before I got my prop (23m) worked, it would run 57.5 with two people. Saw 60.5 on a cold morning, by myself, in the winter. Got the prop worked (repaired, added cup) and see 61.5 in cooler weather, by myself. 58.5-59 with two people.

No problems with hole shot. Boat porpoises a little at moderate trim, 56-58 mph, with extra weight in back (two people, full tank).

Honestly, the boat runs well enough where I don't see a need for a plate.
