    Mercury or Yamaha

I am interested in getting a 19 footer when they are released and was planning on rigging with an Evinrude. Obviously this option is not going to happen so I need to decide between Yamaha and Mercury.

When comparing these two motors on the 18 and 20 foot models, which one is delivered the better performance?

I realize it is not the same boat but hopefully will provide good comparative analysis.

I’ve had both engines within the last six months on two Caymas 21cx rigs and I like the mercury better. Just my opinion but the mercury outperforms the SHO. I had nothing but prop issues and leaks on my Yamaha and hope I don’t have another one.

Over the 20 years or more of selling boats i would not have a SHO, i have seen way to many of those setting in our service area blowed up or with other problems such as making oil, the G2 was a heck of an engine that would be on my boat if they still made them. I have not ran a V8 as of yet but our service guys tell me they don't come back after they leave on a new boat.

I've had several issues with water pumps on my SHO.

Mercury. No issues. Supporting Americans and outperforms

A major issue with the Yamaha is parts availability and cost. Way more than a Merc and down the road parts will eat you alive, provided you can even get them. Buy American now more than ever.

Agreed 100% on this end, but I would look very close at what service you have around you, lot of near by dealers with Merc then by all means go Merc, same way on Yam!!
