    Rt188 Fortrex upgrade

Can upgrade to an 80 lbs Fortrex for 1200. Any concerns from those who have one. Not interested in an Ultrex.

When I bought my RT188 I was concerned about how high the Fortrex sat on the bow and thought it would restrict line of sight so I went with an 80# MAXXUM. same TM just a different mounting bracket.
However, 2 years ago I bought an Ultrex which has the same mounting bracket as the Fortrex and proved myself wrong about the line of sight; don’t even notice it.
Bottom line, that’s a great trolling motor, no negatives that I know of.

I don't have an RT 188, but I do have a 80lb Fortex on my tin boat, and its a beast. Paired with a Ninja Blade, you can plow through a pad field leaving nothing but trimmings in your wake. :)

I like my Fortrex, also added a Grass Goat for fishing weedy lakes.

Although I will be upgrading to an Ultrex for the spot lock feature, my Fortrex has been great. Very well built, very dependable, easy to stow and deploy.

Exactly what I would do. Lots of used since many are going to Ultrex.

I liked mine even though I upgraded to an Ultrex for spotlock. I still keep it as a spare since you can swap it out so easily if you have an issue.
If that’s upgrading a different TM on a new boat I’d do some looking around for a used one. I paid quite a bit less than that when I bought my Fortrex new from BBG Marine.

Had a Fortrex for 4 years. Great motor. Upgraded to Ultrex when they came out. Best accessory I've ever bought.

Ditto....double ditto...triple ditto on Ultrex Spot Lock...

Best accessory ever for fishing. But he said he didn't want one so I suggested a USED Fortrex so that when he uses an Ultrex Spot Lock on another boat that he will not be out so much when he upgrades. I love it.

Thanks for all the replies, still on the fence what to buy. May just wait till next year and reconsider . 70 lb edge still works.

Ultrex is a game changer. Spot lock gets all their hype, but the heading feature is awesome! Point where you want to go and it compensates for wind, waves, whatever while you fish!!!

I just upgraded to a new trolling motor for the spotlock/anchor mode. I upgraded from the Fortrex and I am worried to death whether I made a good choice or not. The Fortrex was a fantastic fit for me.

Are you pricing this boat? My dealer upgraded to the 80lb Fortrex at no additional cost.
