    Experts step inside

Over the course of this fishing season (March-Current) I've noticed few things I'd like to resolve with my engine (88 Mariner 75 HP, OB262251) It appears my hole shot has gotten worse as it has taken longer to plane out. I've also noticed when going on long runs, at times, it takes a bit to get it restarted by applying the choke. When it does restart, quite a bit of smoke is being burned off. Also, when in idle, it intermittently will die. When on these long runs, it runs great with no concerns. I've checked for slip, had the prop worked on, replaced spark plugs and fuel filter, and maintained Don's cocktail with every fill up (Quickleen, Quickcare, and Stabile) since owning the boat. I replaced the fuel line, attachments, and bulb within the last 3 years. Minus these it runs great; hoping I can resolve before it leaves me stranded.

Before replacing the fuel pump, compression test resulted 80 PSI on all three cylinders. Since all are same is it concerning that they are that low?

Ok, did the Sea Foam treatment then retested the compression. 90, 80, 80. Put it back together and fired her up. This time, got a sporadic (absolutely no consistent) beep coming from the control box. Impellar was producing a steady stream. Motor ran with the muffs on for 15 minutes. While running, the beep would come n go from the control box (acting as if an electrical short) and motor misfired approximately 10 times blowin smoke from exhaust/prop.

Go weigh your boat.. the flotation may have taken on water and that will definitely make it harder to holeshot, along with taking some speed off the big end.

Your hull was 700 lbs from the factory +/- a bit.. and then allot for motor which should be around 270 lbs.. Then fuel etc.. if it scales out a few hundred pounds heavy.. you might have a problem as many older boats eventually do.

Took her out after church today and before a cold front came through with a new fuel pump, lines for fuel and oil, and new slide. She's back. Shot out of the hole like ole times. Thanks Joe!
