I went to Anna instead and am glad I did. I got on the water out of Anna point marina about 5:45 and starting with topwater at one of the
points near the marina. About 15 minutes later fish started breaking all around me. I thought they were small stripers, but they were all largemouth.
The feeding frenzy lasted off and on for about 25 minutes and I ended up with 5 in the boat and probably lost or missed another 5 or 6.
They were so aggressive they were coming out of the water to hit my Pop R or the shad. Most were 2lbs. with the largest being 3lbs.
Sometimes dumb luck is better than skill,it was a great morning!

Nothing beats good fortune. Last summer a friend and I literally stumbled onto a school of smallmouths feeding on a ball of bait in Ontario and we caught 20 in less than an hour with the 5 best breaking 20 lbs. Went back the next morning to throw top water and they were still there and we repeated the deed. Probably won't happen again as long as I live. I'm still waiting to see my first school of largemouths breaking on shad at Smith Mountain Lake. Locals claim it happens, I'm still waiting.

same thing happened to me at SML the first time we went striper fishing..pulled into a cove and the stripers came up breaking...we caught 8 or so in 20 minutes...best morning ever

Must've been the only school of largemouth in that whole lake!

Good for you. Nothing like that ever happens for me. And if it does, I'd probably backlash.

I've had stripers come up busting one time at SML and we caught about 4 or so before they went back down. Only time it's ever happened.
