    50 Mercury RPM

Hello. I have a 50hp Mercury, serial number OT571575 that I recently purchased. Seems to idle good, runs pretty good on the river but at WOT it's only going at 4000 rpms. The other day after being in the river for a while I headed to the dock and sat for about a minute or two and a continuous alarm went off. I immediately shut it off. I let it sit for 10 minutes and started to load it on the trailer. I started it again and no alarm.

So I decided to change the water pump. The old one didn't look horrible but wasn't great either. I doubt it was oil due to the fact the tank had plenty of oil.

Anyone know certain things that I need to keep an eye on with this motor. Also how to get my rpms up for a little more speed.

    Thanks

check tach for accuracy , check linkage for full throttle operation also, regular maintenance items for sure
