Fish are biting and people are catching in the grand lake area of the spillway. Sacalait and bass.
And they started a draw down at saline, if you go out there be careful.

That’s been going on for a solid 2 weeks now.. I heard you could walk from boat to boat in grand lake on the 4th... I’ve been doing pretty good in a very different area of the spillway... the drive from Nola east to Morgan city for a day trip bites!!
yeah I fish a very different area... I’m not planning on going back over there at the moment.. I live in Venetian Isles and have plenty of fishing right here.. lake borgne shorelines are stacked with redfish right now, 5 minute boat ride from my house..
I grew up fishing the basin tho, and like going over there every now and then... lots of memories over there..
Yeah I knew it was on for two to three weeks.
A lot more boats on the water this year.
Friend lives near by and has a launch at his house which I use for free.
latey been chasing the trout, reds, and bass in your neck of the woods.
Hit tide really early caught and released 60 reds and 30 bass off the intracoastal.
Tide slowed down it like someone turned off the light switch.
Had a huge hog across from your neighborhood in the marsh grunt at me
and he got his point across to leave where I was fishing.

Any reports on Flat lake area, Bear Bayou,Little Bayou Sorrell?
I’d try American pass too. While there.
Sorrel is dead black water from intercostal to bayou February, duck lake, American pass area... or, it was 2 weeks ago, and I’m pretty sure it still was last week..
seems like bear bayou would be the same but I did not go in there to look...
American pass has been beautiful... fish aren’t on the trees yet or weren’t last week.. I caught a couple but not like normal summer American pass..
Thanks for the reports. I’m thinking on making a scouting trip Sunday just to check things out.
What is the best way to enter grand lake? Never been there.
Difficult to explain to some body but the the easiest is probably take little pigeon until you see a little tin roof shack on the left. I think it has a solar panel on it. It’s part of the oil field. Take the very next left turn. It’s not far past it. After that due to vegetation you will be forced to turned left again which will take you to big pigeon. When you hit big pigeon take a right and that will take you all the way to the lake. It’s not the shortest way but easiest to tell someone else.
How low is Saline now? Will Hickory cut off become dangerous?
That's odd. I thought they were leaving it open a lot longer than this.
Yeah, this was their Facebook statement: "The drawdown gates at the Larto/Saline Complex opened on Thursday, July 9, with the lake dewatering at a slow rate of 1 to 2 inches per day until it reaches 3 feet below pool stage. The drawdown gates are scheduled to be closed on November 2, at which time the lake will be allowed to refill."
I have asked them about this. If they respond, I'll post it.
