920 ProXP with 250 Merc ProXS top speeds

I am just wondering what type of speeds everyone else is getting with their 920 ProXP's. I have a Fury 25p prop. I have had 18.5ft stratos' with a 150 Evinrude before this and it went about 62mph. I am not getting much more than that out of this. Also, the boat gets very wobbley when it gets around 60mph. What can I do to help. Thanks guys!

Is it the 4S or the 2S Merc? 4S you're running too much wheel- 24 is what the overwhelming majority are running that I've seen. 2S I'm betting your engine is too low.

That boat is capable of 78-80 mph. You need to read up on chine walk, prop to pad, and phoenix 920 setups. The bad thing is you have quite a bit of work ahead of you. The good thing is it is a fun process. Find someone local that runs a fast boat and have them cut your learning curve in half. That may mean hanging out at the ramp and finding someone with a nice looking Phoenix.

Jimmy, do you have a hydro jackplate or no? What kind of shape is the prop in? If you do have a hydro plate and your prop is good, I would have to think something is wrong with that Merc. If you have a standard plate, measure your prop to pad and tell us what it is. What are your rpms at WOT? I can't hardly make mine walk anymore, but even when I didn't know how to drive it, it wouldn't show up until right at 70.

No hydro jack plate. WOT is 5400rpm. 65mph. Seems to struggle slightly getting on plane. Prop is in good shape.

5” is to low. I’d raise it to 3.25” and run it again. It will definitely be easier to drive. You may need to go a little up or down from there, but that would be a good place to start.

Trick to driving a Phoenix’ is not to trim up too fast ! trim up gradually’ after reaching full throttle/rpm ! . you will get the hang of it ! plenty of seat time will help

That is going to be a huge difference! 5” is WAY too deep. Word of advice, get rid of that plate. Hydro if you can swing it, or a good quality manual plate (Bob’s).

It would help you out in the long run to change your mounting holes so you can go up and down from 3.5" so you can really get it dialed in. Probably going to find the sweet spot between where you are and 3".

I have a 920 Elite, and with dual console and wife(she little) and loaded, full fuel, live wells half full, 73. She had enough there. Still had some room, but was walking a little. I am at 15 on the atlas.
