    They used to sell them here for bait 35 years ago. I bought a Dozen at a buck a piece. We caught fish on every one! We had a 7.5Lb Largemouth bass, a 9Lb Northern Pike, and a 19.5Lb Channel Cat! Best bait for big fish I’ve ever used. I also used regular salamanders I would find in basement window wells and they worked good too. Not sure if it’s legal any more. I believe they eat fish eggs so predatory fish eat them up.

    I made money when I was a kid catching water dogs and selling them for bait when I was a kid.

    Had an older buddy that had never seen one before and we were fishing at the old Colbert Steam plant in Colbert county Alabama just off Pickwick lake when it was running and we could fish there. Catfishing of course and he hooked one and got it up to the bank prolly wasn't 12 inches long, but he pulled it up on the bank thinking catfish and it reached out for him and opened that mouth and he was gone...to the truck he went...
