    Side Imaging Transducer Location Correct?

This is where either Ranger factory or the dealer mounted the transducer. My side images only view about 50’ or so before the image just turnes black. Is the jack plate blocking the signal where it’s mounted.

It’s mounted center of transom under the jackplate

Mine is mounted in the same place and I have no problems.
Try experimenting with height and angle adjustment. One big advantage is it is well protected at that location. I'm sure some of the local experts will be on shortly to offer other opinions/options.

The transducer has to have all of it BELOW the jackplate and a holeshot plate or some cover put on the bottom of the jackplate. The best installation is the transducer attached to the center of a holeshot plate if the jackplate is large enough to have the motor trimmed all the way down and not contact the transducer.
Next best installation for a Range is a thru-hull transducer under the transom extension, look at the Ranger installations in the Installation and Networking sticky topic.

The mfg of the jackplate would be the best source.

Wayne, what about the TSS L mount and shield? Will that work as well?

Yes, that is what most use.

Still have to cover the bottom of the jackplate if you don't want the echoes from inside of it recorded.

Will the echoes be bad without a cover on the bottom of the JP? My main goal is to get the transducer off the transom to plug and seal the holes the dealership drilled into the transom. If I wasn't concerned about future transom damage from the drilled holes I would just leave it where it is. I have lowered it from the picture above where the TD if below the JP.

At longer Ranges, the lines are not too objectionable. Some just put up with it.

The older Side Imaging units that don't have Down Imaging but Compost DI views really see it in the water column in the DI view.
You will recognize it when you see it, so you can determine if you want to do anything about it.

That has a Down Imaging piezo in the transducer.

HA! That's an accidentally accurate way to describe the DI images I got with my Gen 1 Helix SI.
