    Leaking Sea Star cylinder

My steering cylinder is leaking about 1 drop every other day. Looks like it’s coming out around the seal around where the shaft goes into the cylinder. I have no idea how to change it or really the best way to fix it. Any ideas? It’s about 20 years old

Buy a seal kit with the tool and a quart of the seastar fluid. They are easy to change and bleed the system.

I’ll check into that. Do you happen to have a kit part number or link?

I bought mine off E bay for about $85.00. Mine was the hc5345 kit. Pretty easy to install.

Ok guys. Thanks for the info. I found the kits with the new seals. Starting to watch some videos on it. Looks like breaking the old ones loose with spanner wrench could be difficult. Haven’t watched the ones about bleeding yet but I think I can do this repair as long as I have the right tools before I start.

Some of the seal kits have the spanner wrench and if you want a higher quality, Marine Tech Tools has them https://marinetechtools.com/ They also have some of the How To videos https://www.youtube.com/c/MarineTechTools/videos. Tyler Holland (no relation) that are in the videos also has some of his own now at Marine Tech Tools.

You should have a model # on the seastar cylinder. As mentioned below ebay is a good place to buy the seals and wrench if you need it. Just be careful not to scratch the shaft.

Just picked up that little gem of a tool, I didn't opt for the quick connects for the helm, really don't think I needed that. Should work pretty well for a one man job. I need to bleed mine again.

Simple job. Did mine a while back. Bought wrench and seals directly from Seastar.
