Yes, sharper images but the 3D transducers DO NOT have sonar.

I have an in hull so that should take care of that. Unless the sonar on the 3-1 is better than the in hull

Same Broadband sonar but there might be a slight edge to the 3 in 1 because it is mounted outside on the transom. There is some slight degradation of the signal when passing through the hull. But you’d really have to be an expert to pick it up.

I have a 12" live with 3 in 1. The DI is very sharp and SI is ok but only shows the shadows out to the side, not the actual structure. I have seen some screen shots that looked a lot sharper than mine. I wonder if they were using the 3D ducer? I am curious how much better the images would be?

Following. searching BBC for 3D was not very productive, only post I could find is below. Pretty sure 3D still only runs on 455Khz vs LSS and AI series which gives you the crisp 800. I've also seen discussion on here about issues with version updates, don't remember if that was carbon specific or 3D module specific.

    I run SS3D (3-in-1 wasn't available when I got my system).

Here is a thread I posted a year ago, including images (may want to hit the icloud link in the images for the full res versions, as Photobuck now is not so good).

I think SS3D has better range and on par imaging as the 3-in-1, but comes at a cost, although I think if you shop smart, you can get for about $500-600 real cost (buy buldled, used, etc).
