XR6 project to get better running engine

So I got tired of my rough idle and the same old issue of the hotter it gets outside or after fishing for awhile it gets hard to start issue that seems to plague Xr6's. I have started the minor mods and cleaning of everything on the engine.
Right now I have it apart and waiting on CCMS reeds to arrive.
Here is the list of things I have done or will do during this process.
Please let me know if I have missed something or should not do something.
    S# 0T578976
    Rebuilt fuel pump.
    New bulb. (5th one).
    Fuel lines replaced.
    New starting battery.
    Inspected carb floats. Good.
Cleaned carbs. (no fuel gumming found)
Install new CCMS reeds. SS ones look good.
    Install CCMS stuffers.
    Do a link and sink.
    Recheck timing.
Cowl mod to get more air and let heat to escape better.
Have checked spark and it seemed good.
Compression on all cylinders was good.
See pics. Inside of block looked clean as a whistle.

I had that symptom and I changed my fuel enrichment solenoid and the problem went away.

Keep and eye on the plug burn, Anything that increases airflow sometime requires jet changes

Rarely need jet changes on carb motors as they are already overly rich.

Maybe a new water pump to protect your investment. I had a 180 Pro with an XR6 and that thing would scoot! Never did like to idle good but man that thing would fly

Just put in new pump kit over the weekend. Right now it starts good and idles better. Hope to get it on the water to do some runs.

Ok here's the short version. In morning starts and idles great. Later in day after everything gets heated it still hard to start and idles to low. Idle I can increase I suppose but the hard to start after fishing for hours is upsetting. Is a change of 200 rpm from first start to hot start normal.

Do you have pictures of the cowl mod you did? I tried finding information on this, and came up short.

I just removed the four bolts holding the rear top cowling cover on, then added spacers and longer bolts to put it back on.

The CCMS reeds and stuffers really helped idle. Now just need to work on the hot start issue. Thinking it has to be electrical.

I think Don addressed the hard start in hot weather issue on an EFI motor, basically the older motors don't like the mix of hot weather and ethanol fuel. You may have to put it in "false neutral" and give it some throttle for it to start. I have a '99 200 EFI and I have the exact scenario. In the morning it will start and run fine, but as temps hit mid 90's, and lately we have been well over 100, it doesn't like to start unless I give it a little help, then it busts off fine.
