Tony,, check out utube ( homemade rod wrapper ) the one by Paul Noble is simple and he gives total details on how to do it
I have an entire setup with variable speed wrapper with foot pedal, 3 rod during spinners, tons of reel seats, handles, guides, threads for sale
I built one years ago, but have since sold it. I used to build quite a few rods, but not much any more. Mine was easy to build and worked great. Check the web for ideas. You can also buy a pre-made wrapper fairly cheap.
Fastbug, sent you a pm

Not a wrapper but I did build a rod Turner out of an old microwave motor.

I’d be interested in seeing what you did Munson, I could use that idea for a dryer Maybe.

I build only bass rods and only wrap guides manually. The only time I feel I need a power wrap is when I do a decorative wrap. I have 2 different dryers for finish work.
I’d be interested in dryer plans and or pictures.
thanks

I use my hands and a big book to run the thread through for tension.
A rod wrapper isn't required for your own personal use. Just how many rods are you going to be building for yourself?
A drying motor, on the other hand, is almost a necessity.
I’m just getting some knowledge so I can get started. I figure I can repair a bunch of my old rods that are missing guides. Then as I progress I can get more serious. Only going to do as a hobby. I’m retired and it helps me stay active.

The wrapper that I built was a manual model kinda like the wood ones sold by Mudhole and various other companies. Mudhole also sells a bunch of other wrappers that are not too expensive. Here is a couple pics of the dryer I built years ago. It is pretty much a copy of one Cabelas used to and maybe still sells. I used a old chart recorder motor from work for a motor. It has a rate of about 5 rpms. I also used a lathe to make the chuck for rod but attachment with a few rubber bands. Hope this helps.20200705_194247.jpg
