Chester County Bass Masters held their 3rd of five opens for the 2020 season on June 27th out of Anchor Marine in Northeast Maryland.

80 Teams showed up on an overcast Saturday in search of a 5 fish limit of Upper Bay black bass. The largemouth were in post spawn / summer mode making some of the big fish hard to find.

The 12 inch limit was in play for this TX.

Air temps at launch were around 60 with very little breeze. The tournament launched at 5:30 under cloudy skies with a forecast high of 89 and some possible rain in early am and late afternoon. Winds picked up mid morning to the normal 10.

Water temps were in the 78 - 80 degree range depending on where you fished. Water color was a little off colored in some areas, with normal and cooler water farther south on the Flats.

Launch was on a falling tide with low around 11:00 am.

Eight flights went out with the first flight due back at 2:30 and each additional flight of 10 boats due back ten minutes apart.



63 five fish limits were brought in.

16 weights over 17 lbs. were brought to the scales.

19 bass over 4 pounds were weighed in.

6 bass over 5 pounds were weighed in.

1 bass over 6 pounds was weighed in.


15 cash places were paid, along with 16 sponsor prizes from Susquehanna Tackle, Rhino linings of Delaware, Bass Cat, Dobyns Rods, Zee Bait Company, Steak & Main Restaurant, Eastern Marine of Newark, Nichols Lures, Limitaker Custom Baits, Gruv Fishing Boxes, Buff USA, Hayabusa Hooks, Native Tungsten Weights, Venom Lures, Harmony Fishing Company and Trailer Parts Superstore of Newark.

44 boats participated in $ 60 option pot which paid 3 spots.

First place cash payout and championship plaques went to Stan Sypeck and Jordan Sypeck.

The boys brought in a fantastic bag of 22.35 Lbs to take home the win in a stacked field.

The pair took home a boat load of cash with a Hat Trick of ; 1st place, Lunker and Option Pot money.

It's their second 20+ pound bag in as many CCBM Opens this year after a 3rd place finish on June 6th. They'll need to fish the last 2 Opens in Sept and Oct in order to take home the points title and first place Sponsor prizes for the year.

Included in that impressive bag was the Tournament Lunker of 6.02 Lbs. worth an additional $ 810 cash.

The Team also took home an additional $ 1585 by entering the $ 60 Option Pot and taking first place cash there.

Along with the cash, the team also received a nice package of products from Dobyns Rods and Championship Plaques.

Second place cash went to one of our teams always in the top 20. Nate Brown and Larry Craighead put together an outstanding 5 fish limit weighing in at 22.17 Lbs.

Included in their bag was a 5.96 Lb. big girl that was the Susquehanna Fishing Tackle 2nd Lunker for the tournament, winning them a $ 50 SFT Store gift card.

It's their second 20+ pound bag in this years CCBM Opens this year after a 4th place finish on May 24th. They'll need to fish the last 2 Opens in Sept and Oct in order to take home the points title and first place Sponsor prizes for the year

The pair also entered the $ 60 Option Pot, taking home $ 795 for 2nd place cash from that voluntary pot.

Third place money was won by the 2017 CCBM Points Champions, Keith Cowan and Zach Cowan brought a 5 fish limit to the scales that topped out at 21.59 Lbs.

The pair also entered the $ 60 Option Pot, taking home over $ 265 for 3rd place cash from that voluntary pot along with some Dobyns Rods products.

Fourth place dough was earned by the team of Steve Bowman Jr. and Steve Bowman Sr. who weighed in a 5 fish bag for 20.84 Lbs with a big fish of 4.80 Lbs..

Fifth place coin went to the team of Joe Hunt and Braden " Boom Boom " Hunt who weighed in a nice 5 fish limit of 19.41 Great work on the day.


Sixth place cash was collected by the team of Jay and Josh Burger who brought 5 fish to the scales for 18.76 Lbs. with a big fish of 4.42 Lbs. This was the teams 2nd consecutive 6th place finish in a CCBM Open big field.

Seventh place money was snagged by the team of Pablo Velazquez and Mike Phillips with a 5 fish limit weighing 18.70 Lbs. and a big fish of 5.18 Lbs.


Eighth place money spot was secured by the team of Mike Sentore and Sean McKee who had a 5 bass limit for 18.52 pounds. with a big fish of 5.09 Lbs. It was the teams 2nd 8th place in a row in a big CCBM Open field.


Ninth place cash was collected by the team of Dave Kovack and Brian Setlock who brought 5 fish to the scales for 18.22 Lbs. Included in that nice bag was the Harmony Fishing Tackle 4th Lunker of 5.24 Lbs.

Tenth place money was collected by the team of Vincent Pustizzi and Larry Pustizzi who brought 5 fish to the table for 18.19 Lbs. with a big fish of 4.59 lbs.


Eleventh place cash went to the team of John Shumate and Donald Haskins who brought 5 fish to the scales for 17.98 Lbs. with a big fish of 4.97 lbs.


Twelfth money spot was won by by the team of Steve Zisk and Ryan Sweeney who brought 5 fish to the scales for 17.93 Lbs. and a big fish of 4.51 Lbs.


13th cash spot was won by Chris Donley and Jesse Buss. The team brought in 5 bass for 17.78 Lbs. with a big fish of 4.59 pounds.


14th place went to the team of Duke Nave and Steve Allender who sacked 5 fish for 17.66 Lbs and a big fish of 4.09 Lbs.


15th place and final cash spot was collected by the team of Barry Moore and Lamont Vernon who brought 5 fish to the table for 17.59 Lbs. and a big fish of 4.89 Lbs.


16th thru 25th spots won gift cards or product from Zee Bait Company, Steak & Main restaurant of North East, Gruv Boxes, Venom Lures, Eastern Marine, Buff USA, Nichols Lures, Hayabusa Hooks, Limitaker Custom Baits, and Native Tungsten.

16th place and first team out of the money received a $ 90 Zee Bait card. Conor Cahill and Ken Wise brought in a limit of bass for 17.44 Lbs. to claim the Zee baits.
