Yamaha 3.1 250 Fuel Injection Motor

What was the final year that Yamaha made the 3.1 vMax 250hp fuel injected motor? Was this a good reliable engine? What to look for when purchasing? What are annual maintenance things to do outside of normal impeller, lube...?

I'm thinking 1999. The Vmax are reliable motors and maintenance cost is cheaper then the HDPI. I have a 2004 vmax 250. annual maintenance lower unit oil, water pump, Clean O2 sensor once a year, vst filter, clean poppet valve, spark plugs. Parts are still available from sims and boats.net
    Easy to do the maintenance....

Yep 2004 ox66 250. powerhead I am running. great engine, keep injectors clean and vst filters clean. Maintain the o2 sensor and keep draft tube clean and your normally set. Best mod you can do is replace the failure prone diaphragm pumps with a electric fuel pump.
    2002 X19 200HP OX66 HO Vmax,HPDI lower, it lives, thanks Hydro Tec.
